Pattern Recognition

Pattern Recognition brings classical technical analysis into the modern age by automating the detection of chart structures. Using high-resolution OHLC price data, the system scans global markets 24/7 to identify 24 distinct chart patterns, converting them into structured, rules-based trade ideas with visual overlays.

1. Background & Methodology

Chart patterns—such as Head & Shoulders, Flags, and Triangles—are the technical "language" used by professional traders to identify support, resistance, and potential breakouts. AnalysisIQ Pattern Recognition removes the subjectivity of manual drawing by applying strict, rules-based definitions consistently across all assets.

How it Works

  1. Continuous Scanning: The system monitors price data across 150+ supported markets and multiple timeframes.
  2. Detection: Valid patterns are identified using classical Technical Analysis (TA) rules.
  3. Visual Overlay: Once a pattern is detected, a geometric outline is drawn directly onto the AnalysisIQ chart.
  4. Validation & Trigger: The setup is confirmed only when the price breaks through key validation levels.
  5. Idea Generation: A complete trade setup is created, featuring automated entry, stop loss, take profit, and expiry.

2. Operational Guide: Interface & Features

Pattern Recognition is fully integrated into the AnalysisIQ dashboard, providing traders with an educational yet actionable technical experience.

Key Signal Components

Each pattern-based signal includes:

  • Visual Overlay: Clear geometric outlines (e.g., the "shoulders" and "head" or "triangle" boundaries).
  • Plain-English Explanation: A description of what the pattern signifies for those unfamiliar with classical TA.
  • Directional Bias: Clear labeling as Bullish or Bearish.
  • Multi-Timeframe Analysis: Patterns are detected across three core timeframes:
    • 1-Hour: High volume of ideas for active traders.
    • 4-Hour: Balanced structure for swing traders.
    • Daily: Stronger, longer-term setups for investors.

Patterns Covered (The 24 Library)

The system categorizes patterns into four structural groups:

  • Zig-Zag (Reversal): Double/Triple Tops & Bottoms, Head & Shoulders (Standard and Inverse).
  • Continuation: Bullish & Bearish Flags, Bullish & Bearish Pennants.
  • Wedges: Ascending/Descending (Both Continuation and Reversal variants).
  • Triangles & Rectangles: Ascending, Descending, Symmetrical, and Bullish/Bearish Rectangles.

3. Global Asset Coverage & Volume

The Pattern Recognition engine is a high-volume generator, averaging 17.62 signals per day.

Publication Schedule

  • FX, Commodities, Indices & Stocks: Published 24/5 (aligned with market hours).
  • Cryptocurrencies: Published 24/7 (signals will appear on weekends).

4. Risk Management & Expiry Logic

Every idea generated by Pattern Recognition follows standardized, professional-grade risk management protocols based on the specific geometry of the pattern.

Calculation Logic

  • Take Profit: Calculated using the "measured move" or the height of the pattern structure.
  • Stop Loss: Placed strategically behind the breakout point or key invalidation levels of the structure.
  • Expiry: Calculated based on the time it took for the pattern to form, ensuring the trade idea remains relevant to the price action's current velocity.

5. Technical Compatibility & Delivery

Pattern Recognition requires no additional development; it is a native feature of the AnalysisIQ ecosystem.

  • Supported Platforms: AnalysisIQ Web Widget, MT4/MT5 (via EA), cTrader, and Web Trader.
  • Technical Access: Available via REST and WebSocket API integrations for proprietary broker platforms.
  • Charts: Supports visual overlays on Acuity Standard Charts, with integration capabilities for TradingView.
